Spirituality
May I be at peace
May my
heart remain open
May I
awaken to the light of my own true nature
May I be
healed
May I be
a source of ebullience.
Whenever we listen or use the word spirituality, we tend to
assume that the word might be related to religion, portraying cultural views. People may
describe a spiritual experience as sacred or transcendent or
simply a deep sense of aliveness and interconnectedness.
I started off intriguing about the essence of spirituality when
I was a 20-year-old and wanted to share my thoughts on its relevance in current
situations. In my view it’s the realization of man’s real nature. As
Swami Vivekananda said Religion is realization; not talk, nor doctrine, nor
theories, how beautiful they may be. It is about being and becoming the person
you are.
Spirituality is a broad concept with room for many
perspectives. In general, it includes a sense of connection to something bigger
than us, and it typically involves a search for meaning in life.
Why is Spirituality important?
I strongly feel it’s need of the hour for everyone since it directs
your attention to specific task and increases compassion, empathy and nevertheless
frees the mind from irrelevant thoughts by providing peace and calmness.
The ways I’ve have improved myself is through yoga,
meditation, journaling during difficult times may help us find meaning in life’s
challenges and become more resilient to face obstacles.
It was a cold day and the wind was blowing strongly over the
ocean, raising very high waves. After walking for some time, a friend of mine asked
What does the choppy ocean remind me of?
It reminds me of my mind and my rushing and restless thoughts.
Yes, the stormy ocean is like the mind, and the waves are the thoughts. The
mind is neutral like the water. It is neither good nor bad. The wind is
creating the waves as desires and fears produce thoughts.
I wouldn't want to be on a boat in the middle of the ocean in
a storm like this.
I responded and continued, Thoughts of all kinds come and go
incessantly, agitating the mind like the ocean's waves. What is necessary is to stop the wind. Your thoughts,
desires and fears are like the wind and you need to calm them down, and not let
them rule your life. You learn to control them by controlling your attention
and focus and then the ocean of your mind would become calm.
And
how do I do that?
Through
meditation. First, learn to calm down the wind and the ocean in your mind, when
you can control your mind and make it peaceful, you will have more control of
your life. However, don't focus on changing the outside world. Focus on
changing and calming your inner world.
After
you are able to control your inner world, you would be able to control the
world around you.
Isn't the curtailing of desire to achieve calmness/peace is itself a desire?! Desire is not a problem, it's the essence of life! May be unfulfilled desires cause misery or pain resulting to disturb the peace of mind, the underlying fact is with these desires we are longing for more and more i.e., infinite nature in installments unconsciously! The solution might be to deal with consciousness!
ReplyDeleteIt definitely depends on individual's perspective, Achieving calmness is not a desire it indeed is the way of dealing with our own thoughts. Dealing consciousness might be correlated to meditation.
DeleteSome great words , actually spirituality is an important thing that most of people lack in this modern times. People have become more selfish and started working for their own good without considering the well-being of a society. A society can never work without mutual cooperation and consciousness. Spiritual path fades off most of the differences in the current society😀
DeleteRightly, only if we all could control the mind a little better to fine tune our lives

DeleteJust yesterday did I listen to Sadhguru inner management podcast. And then this. Have to agree that blogging and a daily dose of self reflecting helps to streamline my thoughts
